24 glam wicked party decorations ideas

When I started planning my Halloween party this year, I decided to lean into one of the biggest trends of the season. A Wicked-themed party!

With the new movies coming out, it felt like the perfect time to bring Oz to life with plenty of sparkle, color, and drama.

Half the space was decked out in emerald hues for Elphaba’s side of Oz, and the other half was bright and bubbly pink for Glinda.

Each area had its own theme: a flower-filled Munchkinland entryway, an Emerald City dance floor that glowed green all night, and a dining area inspired by Shiz University.

The mix of lighting, shimmer, and over-the-top details pulled everything together.

If you’re planning your own version of an Emerald City celebration, here’s how I created my Wicked party decorations.

And the easy setup tricks you can use to recreate the look yourself.

  • The design plan

A room decorated for a party with green and purple lighting, hanging crystals, candles, and large artificial plants.

For these party decorations, I went all-in on a pink and green color scheme to channel Wicked.

Pink is the primary color in one half of the space and green is the primary color in the other half.

To keep everything cohesive, I repeated small pink accents in the green half and small green accents in the pink half.

Even though I didn’t recreate props from the show, each area took inspiration from scenes so the whole house felt like a walk through Oz:

    • Entry (Munchkinland): Flower-filled welcome with green as the base and pops of pink.
    • Dance Floor (Emerald City / Elphaba’s space): Green as the lead color with pink accents and a few witchy touches.
    • Dining Area (Shiz / Galinda’s space): Pink as the lead color with lots of flowers and a little green for contrast.
    • Buffet Area: Continued the half pink / half green plan, plus a few direct movie references with sayings and signs.
  • The entrance

A hallway decorated with large pink paper flowers and shiny green curtains, leading to a white front door with a chandelier and a small mirrored table on the right.

Because my house has an open-concept layout, my front door opens right into the living room.

But I like to create a little element of surprise. Guests shouldn’t see everything the minute they walk in!

  • 1 | Hang green curtains

A wall decorated with green and blue metallic tinsel streamers, two candle sconces, and colorful ambient lighting.

To define the entry and separate it from the living room, I hung green sequin curtains* across the walls.

They instantly made the space feel magical.

Behind the piano and along the dance floor walls, I used green foil curtains* for even more shimmer.

    Pro tip:

Foil curtains are a lot less expensive than sequin ones so they’re great if you’re on a budget. But they’re also throw away. If you’re planning on reusing them for other parties, you might want to invest in sequin curtains for the whole room. I don’t recommend using the tape on the back of the foil curtains to hang them. It can be very difficult to get off the wall. You can staple them or hang them from curtain rods with clip-on curtain rings* instead.

  • 2 | Put up large pink flowers

Four large pink paper flowers are displayed on a green and pink iridescent backdrop with a shimmery texture.

To echo all the flowers from Munchkinland, I added large pink paper flowers* along the walls and over the piano (which, conveniently, is already pink!).

Some of the flowers I bought, and others I made myself. (For all the DIY details, read how to make large paper flowers).

To put them up on the sequined curtains, I used safety pins to pin them to the drapes.

In areas covered by foil curtains, I stapled them to the wall. If you don’t want to make holes, you could probably use very sticky double-sided tape to tape them to the foil curtains. (I would test this first to make sure they will hold).

Some of the flowers I bought came with double-sided tape. But I found it stuck to the walls a lot better than it did to the flowers, so I didn’t end up using it. If I was going to do it again, I would staple the tape to the flowers and then stick it to the foil curtains.

  • 3 | Use pink light bulbs

A decorative scene with large pink flowers, a crystal chandelier with pink light, green sequin drapes, and glowing green props.

I changed out the light bulbs in my overhead fixture and lamp to be pink.

For this, I use these LED light bulbs* that have a remote which allows you to change the color. That way you can re-use them for all of your parties, and don’t have to buy light bulbs in every color.

You could also use green light here if you wanted to create an immersive Emerald City entrance. But the flowers on the walls show up better under pink light.

  • 4 | Add green uplights

A hallway decorated with large paper flowers, green and pink lighting, and a small table with candles under a pink-lit ceiling light.

To make the walls glow, I placed green uplights along the floor and on the console table in the hallway. (I use these lights* that are color-changing so they’re easy to re-use for other parties.)

They add instant drama and make the room look more polished and party-ready.

  • 5 | And pink candles

A white piano with two chairs sits against a wall decorated with green tinsel, pink flowers, and a mirror, under colorful lighting.

To add a little more color, I put out these pink flameless votive candles* on the piano and on top of the wall behind it..

The mirror behind them reflected the candlelight into the room and made the whole area sparkle.

  • 6 | Cover the entrance

A white piano and bench sit beside a mirror and lamp, surrounded by colorful beaded curtains and vibrant pink and green lighting.

I hung green and pink foil curtains* between the entry and the dance floor to keep guests from seeing the whole space at once.

It added a fun reveal moment when people walked through.

Note: Foil curtains are not very strong so if you have them across entrances, some of them will break off as people walk through. If this is going to bother you, you might want to use the sequin curtains or other fabric ones instead.

    Pro tip:

If you don’t have walls to hang curtain rods on (or don’t want to make any holes), hanging curtains from these heavy duty backdrop stands* works really well. They are adjustable so you can change the width and height (up to 10-feet x 10-feet). And they have flat bases so people won’t trip over them as they are walking by.

  • The dance floor

A room decorated for a party with green and purple lighting, hanging crystal bead curtains, oversized floral arrangements, and chandeliers.

The dance floor (aka my living room) was where the Emerald City magic happened.

All green with witchy touches for Elphaba.

And pops of pink around the edges to keep it bright and festive.

  • 7 | Hang beaded curtains

Tall rectangular column covered in hanging crystal strands, illuminated by green lighting in a decorated indoor space.

To define the dance floor without closing it off, I hung beaded curtains* from heavy-duty backdrop stands*.

They added movement, sparkle, and just enough separation to feel like a new room without completely closing it in.

I also added beaded columns* at the dance floor entrance to mimic the ones in the Oz castle.

And installed uplights* at the base of them so they all glow green.

  • 8 | Put up an Oz castle backdrop

Room decorated for a Halloween party with green and purple lighting, large flowers, witch hats, and a gothic cathedral backdrop.

Across the back window, I hung a large Emerald City backdrop*.

I used these curtain clips* to hang it from my existing curtain rod. But it does have grommets so you could use zip ties if you wanted to.

You could also put it up on a wall. But having it cover a window means I could put a flood light behind it outside. Which makes it stand out more at night.

I used a smaller version of the same backdrop across the bookshelf in the living room to tie it in with the theme. (And I happen to have lights in the bookshelf so I can turn them on to make this backdrop glow at night also).

  • 9 | Decorate the ceiling

Decorated ceiling with crystal chandeliers, draped fabric, witch hats, and green and purple lighting, creating a festive atmosphere.

I think hanging things from the ceiling is one of the best ways to make your party decor feel special.

So I used green fabric draped from the ceiling to define the dance floor.

Since I have a chandelier in the middle of the room, I put the fabric through a loop in the chain.

If you don’t have this, you could put a large hook in the ceiling, or use my ceiling net trick to hang a hook without requiring any holes.

A really strong command hook might work, too, if you don’t have popcorn. But I would test this first. You don’t want it coming down in the middle of your party!

Because the dance floor is Elphaba’s space, I also hung witch hats* from the ceiling at different heights with fishing wire.

And then added some faux chandeliers* in addition to the one I already have in the room to add some sparkle and depth.

  • 10 | Add green table cloths

Room decorated with green gothic arch backdrop, velvet furniture, faux white flowers, and metallic fringe, creating a whimsical, fantasy-inspired atmosphere.

To make all of my different side tables look like they match, I covered them all with green velvet table cloths for a rich, cohesive look.

  • 11 | Use large freestanding flowers

A modern living room with a black couch, tall pink and white artificial flowers, beaded curtain, and witch hats hanging from the ceiling.

To bring a little pink into the dance floor area and add some drama, I placed these large freestanding flowers* around the room.

Since I didn’t want people to knock them over while they were dancing (and the base of the flowers isn’t that pretty), I tucked most of them in behind side tables.

Putting one on either side of the Emerald City backdrop created the perfect place for photos.

  • 12 | Add uplights

Room decorated with oversized pink flowers, beaded curtains, chandeliers, green and purple lighting, and a hanging witch hat for a whimsical party atmosphere.

As I mentioned before, I used LED uplights* set to a green color inside my columns to make them fit with the Oz castle vibe.

To make the flowers pop, I used the same uplights set to pink underneath them.

A living room decorated all in green for a Wicked party

But if you want to continue with the all-green theme, you could also use green ones. That’s the great thing about using the LED lights, you can change the color on the fly.

    Pro tip:

If you are using the same kind of lights I did and want to use different colors for different lights you may run into trouble setting them because the remote switches them all to the same color. To fix this, turn them all off. Then turn on all the lights you want to be the first color. Set them to the right color and turn them off. Then turn on all the lights you want to be the second color. Set them and turn them off. Repeat as many times as you need to. When you’re done, turn them all on and they will all be set to the right color.

  • 13 | Hang green meteor lights

A room decorated with green lighting, hanging witch hats, a chandelier, large flowers, and a Gothic-style backdrop featuring arched windows.

For lighting, these green meteor lights* really increased the drama.

I hung 5 strands over my dance floor area (which is about 15 feet x 15 feet.

I also changed out the light bulbs in my chandelier and lamps to be green (using the same color-changing LED light bulbs* I mentioned above).

  • 14 | Put out candle trees

A room decorated with glowing, oversized flowers, a green round table, velvet chairs, and a backdrop of gothic arches, illuminated by colorful lights.

To bring the decor out from the walls and add some interest to the middle of the room, I put out candle trees on some of the tables.

I added flameless green votive candles* to call attention to them.

While these are not color changing, they are controlled by remote so you can turn them all on and off at the same time. Which makes things much easier when you have candles all over the room!

  • The dining area

A dining room decorated with hanging flowers, draped fabric, candles, and purple lighting, creating a whimsical, enchanted forest atmosphere.

On the pink side of the house, I created a Shiz University–inspired dining area. Bright, floral, and a little glam.

I used pink curtains, pink lights, and flowers, then added green accents and greenery to tie it back to the other half of the room.

  • 15 | Hang pink foil curtains

A dining room decorated with hanging pink flowers, candles, and tinsel, lit by purple and green lighting, with a floral centerpiece on the table.

To cover the walls, I hung pink foil curtains*.

They really reflect the light and make the space shimmer.

  • 16 | Put up artificial wisteria

A dining table with a floral centerpiece, surrounded by candles and greenery, is set in a dimly lit room with purple and green lighting and hanging flowers.

Then I covered the top of everything in the space (Including the chandelier!) with artificial Wisteria branches* so the flowers hang down

And hung metal orbs from the ceiling with Wisteria hanging down from them to add a lush look.

  • 17 | Use pink chair covers

Two bar stools are covered with shiny pink fabric and decorated with green ruffled tulle bows, positioned at a counter in a colorfully lit room.

To make all the chairs in the space look cohesive, I covered them all with bright pink chair covers.

And tied these green chair bows* onto the backs of them.

  • 18 | Set a pink and green table

A table centerpiece with green vases, pink flowers, and lit candles is arranged on a purple-lit table.

For the dining table, I used inexpensive pink fabric* with this green runner* cut to the right length.

This fabric comes is really inexpensive (Not much more than the cheap plastic ones). All you have to do is cut it to the right length for your tables.

I used different sized green candles and pink peony garland down the center of the table to create an easy centerpiece.

  • 19 | Hang pink meteor lights

A dining room decorated for a party with purple and green lighting, floral garlands, candles, a chandelier, and hanging tinsel.

Similar to the dance floor, I hung meteor lights from the ceiling, but I used these pink ones* for this area instead of green.

  • The dessert table backdrop

    the dessert table backdrop

The buffet area and dessert table was in another room which I decorated half pink and half green to keep it consistent with the rest of the decor.

I’ll be posting more details about my Wicked themed food and drinks, so stay tuned for that.

  • 20 | Put up a pink and green backdrop

A wall decorated with pink and white artificial flowers on the left and green artificial foliage on the right, divided diagonally.

Behind the dessert table, I combined an artificial flower wall (pink side) and an artificial boxwood wall* (green side) to create an 8-foot x 8-foot backdrop.

Both are hung on another heavy duty backdrop stand* using zip ties.

  • 21 | Hang a large pink and green bow

A decorative backdrop with a large metallic pink and green bow, pink artificial flowers on the left, and green foliage on the right.

Then I added this large pink and green bow*.

I attached it to the backdrop using large safety pins clipped around the mesh behind the backdrop.

To make sure it stood out, I reversed the bow colors so the pink side was on the green half of the backdrop and vice versa.

  • 22 | Add coordinating accents

A decorative green wall with pink hanging flowers, a large pink bow, and a white floral-patterned tablecloth in front.

To tie it all together, I hung more pink Wisteria* around the top and side of the green boxwood section.

Large green dragonflies on a pink flower backdrop

And then added green dragonflies to the pink flower wall for a little contrast and whimsy.

  • 23 | Put up a neon sign

Large metallic pink and green bows decorate a backdrop of pink flowers and green leaves with a neon

The finishing touch was a “Pink Goes Good With Green” neon sign*. The perfect nod to Glinda and Elphaba.

  • 24 | Cover the back

Large green castle illustration displayed as a backdrop, surrounded by silver and green decorative streamers. The website

Since my backdrop was visible from both sides, I hung pink and green foil curtains* behind it and added an Emerald City castle scene setter* so it looked just as good from the back.

  • Final Thoughts

Putting together these Wicked party decorations was such a fun way to celebrate Halloween this year.

The mix of pink and green made the whole house feel magical…part Emerald City glam, part Glinda sparkle.

What I love most about this theme is how flexible it is. You can make it as over-the-top or as simple as you want and still get that unmistakable Wicked vibe.
