Wicked Party Decorations For an Over The Top Celebration

To define the entry and separate it from the living room, I hung green sequin curtains* across the walls.

They instantly made the space feel magical.

Behind the piano and along the dance floor walls, I used green foil curtains* for even more shimmer.

To echo all the flowers from Munchkinland, I added large pink paper flowers* along the walls and over the piano (which, conveniently, is already pink!).

Some of the flowers I bought, and others I made myself. (For all the DIY details, read how to make large paper flowers).

To put them up on the sequined curtains, I used safety pins to pin them to the drapes.

In areas covered by foil curtains, I stapled them to the wall. If you don’t want to make holes, you could probably use very sticky double-sided tape to tape them to the foil curtains. (I would test this first to make sure they will hold).

Some of the flowers I bought came with double-sided tape. But I found it stuck to the walls a lot better than it did to the flowers, so I didn’t end up using it. If I was going to do it again, I would staple the tape to the flowers and then stick it to the foil curtains.

I changed out the light bulbs in my overhead fixture and lamp to be pink.

For this, I use these LED light bulbs* that have a remote which allows you to change the color. That way you can re-use them for all of your parties, and don’t have to buy light bulbs in every color.

You could also use green light here if you wanted to create an immersive Emerald City entrance. But the flowers on the walls show up better under pink light.

To make the walls glow, I placed green uplights along the floor and on the console table in the hallway. (I use these lights* that are color-changing so they’re easy to re-use for other parties.)

They add instant drama and make the room look more polished and party-ready.

To add a little more color, I put out these pink flameless votive candles* on the piano and on top of the wall behind it..

The mirror behind them reflected the candlelight into the room and made the whole area sparkle.

I hung green and pink foil curtains* between the entry and the dance floor to keep guests from seeing the whole space at once.

It added a fun reveal moment when people walked through.

Note: Foil curtains are not very strong so if you have them across entrances, some of them will break off as people walk through. If this is going to bother you, you might want to use the sequin curtains or other fabric ones instead.

To define the dance floor without closing it off, I hung beaded curtains* from heavy-duty backdrop stands*.

They added movement, sparkle, and just enough separation to feel like a new room without completely closing it in.

I also added beaded columns* at the dance floor entrance to mimic the ones in the Oz castle.

And installed uplights* at the base of them so they all glow green.

Across the back window, I hung a large Emerald City backdrop*.

I used these curtain clips* to hang it from my existing curtain rod. But it does have grommets so you could use zip ties if you wanted to.

You could also put it up on a wall. But having it cover a window means I could put a flood light behind it outside. Which makes it stand out more at night.

I used a smaller version of the same backdrop across the bookshelf in the living room to tie it in with the theme. (And I happen to have lights in the bookshelf so I can turn them on to make this backdrop glow at night also).

I think hanging things from the ceiling is one of the best ways to make your party decor feel special.

So I used green fabric draped from the ceiling to define the dance floor.

Since I have a chandelier in the middle of the room, I put the fabric through a loop in the chain.

If you don’t have this, you could put a large hook in the ceiling, or use my ceiling net trick to hang a hook without requiring any holes.

A really strong command hook might work, too, if you don’t have popcorn. But I would test this first. You don’t want it coming down in the middle of your party!

Because the dance floor is Elphaba’s space, I also hung witch hats* from the ceiling at different heights with fishing wire.

And then added some faux chandeliers* in addition to the one I already have in the room to add some sparkle and depth.

To bring a little pink into the dance floor area and add some drama, I placed these large freestanding flowers* around the room.

Since I didn’t want people to knock them over while they were dancing (and the base of the flowers isn’t that pretty), I tucked most of them in behind side tables.

Putting one on either side of the Emerald City backdrop created the perfect place for photos.

As I mentioned before, I used LED uplights* set to a green color inside my columns to make them fit with the Oz castle vibe.

To make the flowers pop, I used the same uplights set to pink underneath them.

But if you want to continue with the all-green theme, you could also use green ones. That’s the great thing about using the LED lights, you can change the color on the fly.

For lighting, these green meteor lights* really increased the drama.

I hung 5 strands over my dance floor area (which is about 15 feet x 15 feet.

I also changed out the light bulbs in my chandelier and lamps to be green (using the same color-changing LED light bulbs* I mentioned above).

To bring the decor out from the walls and add some interest to the middle of the room, I put out candle trees on some of the tables.

I added flameless green votive candles* to call attention to them.

While these are not color changing, they are controlled by remote so you can turn them all on and off at the same time. Which makes things much easier when you have candles all over the room!

To cover the walls, I hung pink foil curtains*.

They really reflect the light and make the space shimmer.

Then I covered the top of everything in the space (Including the chandelier!) with artificial Wisteria branches* so the flowers hang down

And hung metal orbs from the ceiling with Wisteria hanging down from them to add a lush look.

To make all the chairs in the space look cohesive, I covered them all with bright pink chair covers.

And tied these green chair bows* onto the backs of them.

For the dining table, I used inexpensive pink fabric* with this green runner* cut to the right length.

This fabric comes is really inexpensive (Not much more than the cheap plastic ones). All you have to do is cut it to the right length for your tables.

I used different sized green candles and pink peony garland down the center of the table to create an easy centerpiece.

Similar to the dance floor, I hung meteor lights from the ceiling, but I used these pink ones* for this area instead of green.

Behind the dessert table, I combined an artificial flower wall (pink side) and an artificial boxwood wall* (green side) to create an 8-foot x 8-foot backdrop.

Both are hung on another heavy duty backdrop stand* using zip ties.

Then I added this large pink and green bow*.

I attached it to the backdrop using large safety pins clipped around the mesh behind the backdrop.

To make sure it stood out, I reversed the bow colors so the pink side was on the green half of the backdrop and vice versa.

To tie it all together, I hung more pink Wisteria* around the top and side of the green boxwood section.

And then added green dragonflies to the pink flower wall for a little contrast and whimsy.

The finishing touch was a “Pink Goes Good With Green” neon sign*. The perfect nod to Glinda and Elphaba.

Since my backdrop was visible from both sides, I hung pink and green foil curtains* behind it and added an Emerald City castle scene setter* so it looked just as good from the back.
