Addams Family Theme Party Ideas

To set the mood before guests even made it to the front door, I dressed up skeletons as the Addams Family characters and posed them in the front yard.

They made quite the creepy welcoming committee!

Then made a DIY Cousin Itt using a tomato cage and a plastic hula skirt. It was quick, easy, and instantly recognizable.

And added a graveyard with a Beware of the Thing sign on the fence.

So everyone knew what they were getting themselves into.

Inside, I covered the walls with this red and black damask fabric by simply stapling it up.

It made the whole space feel more gothic and dramatic. Perfect for an Addams Family vibe.

The red glow in the room was especially striking at night.

You’ll be surprised how different your room looks just by making this one change.

To keep the Addams Family theme front and center, I hung a life-sized scene setter of the family across the front of a closet and placed a spotlight behind it. (You could also do this in front of a window and put the light outside.)

The back-lighting gave it a haunting glow that looked great indoors.

And since the closet faces a front window, you could see the image glowing from outside too.

No haunted mansion (or Addams Family home) would be complete without eerie portraits.

I bought a few spooky pictures online and scattered them throughout the house.

But you could also print your own (I have a few options here in my store) and pop them into thrifted or vintage-style frames for the same effect.

Black lace is one of my favorite tricks for instantly adding a spooky touch that still looks elegant.

I layered it over the fireplace mantel and used it again on the tablecloth.

It added just the right touch of haunted sophistication without much effort.

To carry the black lace theme onto the ceiling (and add more Addams Family quirkiness), I also hung some from the chandelier.

It dimmed the light without completely blocking it. Which gave the room a more shadowy atmosphere.

And of course, it made the chandelier itself look a little more spooky and theatrical.

Candles are a must for any Halloween party, and especially for one inspired by the Addams Family.

I scattered them all over the room.

For parties, I always use flameless ones, just to be safe in case they get bumped. They aren’t quite as nice as the real thing but still add that gothic glow.

To represent Gomez, I created a little cigar bar setup.

I filled an old cigar box* with fake cigars* and added a sign that read “Gomez’s Cigars.”

Of course, if you have actual cigar smokers in the crowd, you could always stock it with real ones.

I used even more cigar boxes as decorations around the room.

A few went up on the mantel.

Some served as pedestals for candles, pumpkins, or other spooky accessories.

They’re such a cheap and easy way to add a vintage, Addams-style touch.

One of my favorite party purchases was this gold gothic-style mirror* I picked up just for the occasion.

It added a vintage flair that felt totally on theme.

And I ended up loving it so much that it’s still hanging in that room today.

For the floral arrangements, I stuck with black and white faux flowers.

Then, to dial up the creepiness, I tucked a few plastic spiders into the arrangements.

They looked spooky but still had a sense of drama and elegance.

That’s just how Morticia would’ve liked them.

I carried the black and white theme into the dining table, using gold accents to dress it up a bit.

Skull place card holders and other Halloween accessories finished off the table in a way that was spooky and stylish.

The food and drinks kept with the spooky theme too.

For Addams Family themed food, I served a black and white bow-tie pasta salad, spider deviled eggs and other Halloween-themed recipes that were just creepy enough to be fun.

But still tasty enough to keep everyone going back for more.

And came up with Addams family names for the recipes even if they didn’t look particularly scary.
