Halloween singing pumpkins on a bench in the front yard

If you’re looking for a Halloween decoration that’s guaranteed to wow your neighbors and make trick-or-treaters stop in their tracks, singing pumpkins are it!

Last year, I added them to my Disney Haunted Mansion–themed yard haunt.

I wanted to mimic the famous singing busts from the ride but couldn’t find anything like them. Until I saw these projected pumpkin faces who sing songs that sound very similar.

The effect was fun, whimsical, and instantly became one of the highlights of my display.

The best part is that this setup isn’t just for a Haunted Mansion theme.

It works beautifully with any Halloween yard display.

And the secret? It’s much easier to create than it looks.

With just a few pumpkins, a projector, and the right video, you can have your own chorus of singing pumpkins entertaining visitors all season long.

Supplies

Materials:

  • a bench – This is where your pumpkins will be. I used a bench but you could also use a straw bail, planter, large rock, window sill or anything else that the pumpkins can sit on so you can see them.
  • a small table – This is for the projector to sit on. The table should be big enough to hold the projector and about the same height as the bench.
  • 3 large pumpkins (either artificial or real) – I used 3 artificial white pumpkins because I was trying to mimic the singing busts from the Disney haunted mansion. But you can also use real pumpkins or artificial orange ones.
  • singing pumpkins video* – It comes with different modes and songs so you have lots of options for displaying it.
  • a table cloth and accessories – We’ll use these to decorate around the bench and camouflage the projector. I put a tablecloth over the projector and added a lantern and another pumpkin on top of it. Then added lots of pumpkins around the bench.

Tools:

  • projector – I used this inexpensive one*.
  • outdoor speakers – These are optional, but may be necessary in order to hear the singing. Especially if you have a large yard.

How to make Halloween singing pumpkins

  • 1 | Set up the table and bench

A table and bench set up for projecting onto pumpkins

I started by putting a small table about six feet in front of the bench.

Next, I placed the pumpkins on the bench, straight across from the table.

They need to be fairly close together so the projection will work the way it’s supposed to.

To make the table less obvious, I put it behind the tree in my front yard so the legs and wires were hidden.

But you could easily tuck it behind some tombstones or other Halloween props.

The big thing here is to make sure both the table and bench are sturdy. If they wobble, the video won’t stay lined up on the pumpkins.

  • 2 | Set up the projector

Then it was time to set up the projector.

I put it on the table, plugged it in, and started the AtmosFX singing pumpkins video.

This is where a little adjusting comes in.

You might have to move the pumpkins around or slide the table forward or back until the faces fit perfectly on the pumpkins.

You also want the projector to be at about the same level as the pumpkins. Otherwise, the image will be distorted.

  • 3 | Cover the projector

Once the video was lined up, I wanted the projector to disappear into the scene.

Adding a simple tablecloth did the trick.

Then I placed a lantern and another pumpkin on top so it just looked like part of the decorations.

Pro tip: I take my projector in at night so that it doesn’t get wet (or disappear). If you’re doing this, too, you may want to mark its position on the table with table. That way after you take it in, you can put it back in the right location easily.

  • 4 | Add decorations and accessories

A bench with 3 large pumpkins on it and more pumpkins around the bottom

To finish it off, I added a few more pumpkins and Halloween props around the bench.

That way, the singing pumpkins blended right in with the rest of my display instead of standing out on their own.

  • 5 | The singing pumpkins

    And that’s it!

Once everything is set up, you’ll have a row of pumpkins that come to life with singing faces.

Watch the video to see how awesome they look!

It’s such a simple project, but the effect is really impressive. Especially at night when the lights are low.

Whether you’re going for a full Haunted Mansion theme or just want to add something unique to your Halloween yard, these singing pumpkins are guaranteed to be a crowd favorite.
