How to make a RumChata White Russian

  • 1 | Rim the glass

Cinnamon sugar rim on a glass

Rimming the glass is an optional step, but I think it really does elevate the cocktail.

To get a nice cinnamon-sugar rim, pour a small amount of RumChata into a shallow dish, just enough to dip the rim of your glass.

Pour enough cinnamon sugar to cover the bottom of another shallow dish.

Dip the rim of your glass into the RumChata first, then into the cinnamon sugar mixture, turning it gently to coat evenly.

  • 2 | Mix the cocktail

RumChata being poured into a cocktail shaker

Fill a cocktail shaker about half way full with ice.

Add 2 ounces of RumChata, 1 ounce vodka and 1 ounce heavy cream.

Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 15 to 20 seconds.

This will combine the ingredients and cool the drink down quickly.

  • 3 | Serve

A rimmed glass filled with ice and some Kahlua

Next, add some fresh ice into your prepared glass.

    Pour in 1½ ounces Kahlua.

Strain the RumChata mixture into the glass using the shaker’s built-in strainer

Pour the mixture into the glass slowly to create a layer on top of the Kahlua and prevent disturbing the rim coating.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of the cocktail.

How to make a big batch

When I’m hosting a party, I always like to make a big batch of my signature cocktails.

If you want to do that for this cocktail (this will make 12 servings):

  • Mix 3 cups RumChata, 1½ cups Vodka and 1½ cups heavy cream in a large pitcher.
  • Store in the refrigerator.
  • If you want to rim the glasses, get them all ready an hour or two in advance.
  • When you are ready to serve, give the mixture in the pitcher a stir.
  • Then add ice, 1½ ounces Kahlua and 4 ounces (or ½ cup) of the RumChata mixture to each glass.
