Saute onion in 1 Tablespoon olive oil until softened. Add 1½ pounds ground beef or turkey and cook until brown. Stir in 2 Tablespoons chili powder and 1½ teaspoons salt.
Transfer the ground turkey into the slow cooker. Stir in a 28-oz can crushed tomatoes, 14-oz can diced tomatoes, 6-oz can tomato paste and 1 teaspoon hot sauce.
Cover and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours, or on low for 7 to 8 hours.
Serve with crackers, rolls or on top of hot dogs. Top with grated cheese, sour cream and green onions, if desired.
