This Tamari roasted almonds recipe is a tasty twist on natural almonds that is so easy to make. They’re great in nut bowls at a party, look great on a cheese board, or can make a delicious snack.

These roasted Tamari almonds are irresistible nibbles that we always have around the house as snacks over the holidays.

As the name suggests, they’re made with Tamari sauce which is a milder version of soy sauce. And gives the nuts a warm brown color that looks great on a cheese board.

These salty treats are super simple to make and are a nice change from the traditional nut bowl on a side table.

Tamari roasted almonds recipe ingredients

This is your shopping list.

  • whole unsalted almonds – don’t use blanched almonds for this recipe since they won’t hold the flavor
  • tamari sauce (can also use soy sauce)
  • lemon juice
  • cayenne pepper (optional)

How To Make Tamari Almonds

Pre-heat the oven to 350℉.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Roast the Almonds

Spread 2½ cups of almonds out on the cookie sheet.

Toast in the oven for 5 minutes. The almonds should be fragrant.

Season the Nuts

In a small bowl, combine ¼ cup of tamari (or soy) sauce with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and a pinch of cayenne pepper, if using.

Sprinkle the sauce over the nuts and stir to coat well.

Put the pan back in the oven and bake the almonds for 7 minutes.

Stir the almonds again.

Then turn off the oven and let the pan sit in the warm oven until all the tamari sauce is absorbed, about 10 to 12 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack. The almonds will become crisp and dry.

Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

If the almonds become soft, they can be re-baked for about 5 minutes to crisp them up again.

  • Let cool on a wire rack until crisp and dry.

Notes

  • Store in airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
  • If the nuts soften, bake again for 5 minutes until crisp.
