How To Decorate Wine Bottles For Centerpieces

Using a lot of candles and floral arrangements helps to create a Wow factor for your party decor. But all of those candle holders and vases can get expensive. Which is why I like to create centerpieces from decorated wine bottles. They look pretty, are really inexpensive and can be easily customized to match your party theme colors.

Whenever I’m throwing a party where I need a lot of candle holders or vases, these DIY decorated wine bottles come in handy. (You could also use liquor bottles if that’s what you have on hand.)

They are really inexpensive and easy to make.

And you can decorate them in any color to match your party decor.

So when I wanted a bunch of candle holders for my Great Gatsby party, I decided to make some white, black and gold ones to go with the roaring 20’s color scheme.

There are so many different ways to decorate them that you could create a different look for every bottle and let each of your guests take one home at the end of the night as a unique party favor.

The easiest way to use wine bottles for a centerpiece is to spray paint them.

For my Gatsby party, I painted some of the bottles matte black, some metallic gold and some two-toned black and gold.

While I decorated most of them with ribbon and other embellishments, the simple painted wine bottles can make a statement all on their own.

Especially if what you put in them draws your attention (like the ostrich feathers in this wine bottle).

2 | Gold wine bottle with white pearls and lace

This wine bottle was spray painted gold and then had white lace glued around the bottom and faux pearls glued around the neck of it.

It’s a simple but effective way to decorate a wine bottle which would work quite well for weddings as well as bridal showers.

3 | Gold wine bottle decorated with black lace

The next of my Gatsby wine bottles used similar materials, but it has black lace instead of white.

And I used the pearls to outline the top and the bottom of the lace rather than wrapping them around the neck of the bottle.

Which creates a more dramatic-looking wine bottle. Especially if you put a black candle in it.

4 | Black wine bottle with rhinestones and pearls

The third DIY wine bottle centerpiece uses a flat black wine bottle, rhinestone ribbon and pearls to create a shimmery look.

The pearls outline the top and bottom of the rhinestone ribbon, similar to what we did with the black lace above.

Repeating the same decorations on the neck of the bottle as well as around the middle almost make it look like jewelry on a dress.

5 | Black wine bottle decorated with gold ribbon

The next one of my DIY wine bottle decorations used a flat black wine bottle with some 2″ wide mesh gold ribbon.

I glued it onto the bottle in 3 places using a hot glue gun to secure the edges.

6 | Black and gold wine bottle with white ribbon

Because this wine bottle has two-toned black and gold paint, I didn’t think it needed a lot of embellishment, so I only added one ribbon.

This ribbon goes on the same way as it did for the last one.

Add some hot glue along one edge.

Wrap the ribbon around the bottle, and then glue down the other end.

7 | Gold wine bottle with clear beads

This wine bottle has a roll of clear beads wrapped around the bottom of it.

The first bead is glued to the bottom edge of the bottle with a glue gun.

Then the string is wrapped around, pulling it tight around the wine bottle, until it fills up the bottom half.

Finally the top bead is glued into place with the glue gun.

8 | Colored wine bottles with beads

If you don’t want to go through the trouble of painting and gluing, find some wine bottles in colors you like (such as the black and blue ones above).

Then wrap strings of beads around the neck of the bottles to add a little bling.
